Boise State Basque Studies was very fortunate to have had with us as an administrator in residence, Iñaki Goirizelaia, the former president of the University of the Basque Country. He came in February to inaugurate our Eloise Garmendia Bieter, Chair in Basque Studies, (See highlights from the inauguration here.) The time has come for him to return to the Basque Country. He worked on various initiatives here to explore greater collaboration between Boise State and the University of the Basque Country, including perhaps some dual degrees (the join degree would be valid in both the U.S. and Europe). As a final tribute, the City of Boise and Mayor Dave Bieter declared July 28th Iñaki Goirizelaia Day with the text below. One of the best parts was that it was a complete surprise for him. He’s a great friend of Boise State Basque Studies. To him we say Eskerrik asko–many thanks!
