Departmental Collaboration
Boise State University has embarked on the creation of a Basque Studies program that fuses together the resources of three Boise State entities:
INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS Boise State University offers a globally enriching education and provides a diverse campus climate to prepare its students to become internationally competent and culturally sensitive citizens. Faculty and students from the Boise State University community can gain an understanding of international commerce, global interdependence, human rights and diverse cultural, social, political, and economic systems including those in the Basque Country. BASQUE STUDIES MINOR Department of Modern Languages & Literature College of Arts & Sciences The Basques refer to themselves in their language as "Euskaldunak" which literally means "one who speaks Basque." Language has always been a central part of defining what it means to be Basque. Accordingly, Basque Studies here at Boise State has made the teaching of Euskara a key component. Students are offered introductory level courses as well as second year follow-up options. For more information click on Boise State Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.
BASQUE STUDIES CENTER Department of History College of Social Science & Public Administration A definitive fact of the Basques is that they are still here; most small population groups are absorbed by larger groups over time. Alone in western Europe, Basques largely escaped this historical process and instead maintained a distinctive identity. Thus the examination of Basque history is a unique window into the development of European Civilization. The History Department offers regular Basque culture courses and workshops that not only embrace the history of the Basques, but also their customs and traditions.
